How Can I Lose Weight and Look Great?

As a fitness professional a question I always hear from my adult and teen clients is, how can I lose weight? Some people ask because they want to look better and some people ask because they want to feel better. There is a big difference in the motivation, however in reality, proper weight loss and good health go hand in hand. There is no magic pill, contrary to what we all would like, it still takes good old sweat and diet diligence.
There are several really important things to keep in mind if you are planning on losing weight. First not all calories are made equal, counting calories is effective, however it is even more effective to use up your calories on good healthy foods.
Make sure you eat 3 meals a day, and 2 or 3 snacks. You want to eat often to keep the metabolism going, this will keep you burning calories and burning fat.
Great snack options are cheese sticks – especially white cheese like mozzarella, or nuts, they both have protein. You want to have protein in every meal and snack, the protein helps you with the hunger and cravings. Other great sources of protein that are good for meals are lean meats such as chicken/turkey/fish.
Many times the hunger we feel is because of our dehydration. As a good health habit, and especially when you want to lose some weight, it is key to drink enough water. When you are feeling hungry have a drink of water or some other clear liquid low in sugar, and then wait 15 min, if you still feel hungry then make a snack.
Working out is also very important to lose weight, diet is going to do more for losing weight and also is extremely important for building muscle. Muscle is the next topic, as you build more muscle you will burn more calories, and when losing weight and building muscle it is very important to eat protein. Your body tends to burn up muscle when it is looking for energy, this is why protein is so important, the protein helps in preventing muscle loss and aid in fat conversion for energy.
Workout and eating plans are best when they have options for less than ideal situations. Many workout programs do not contain body weight workouts that allow you to get a full body workout anywhere from your own room when you can’t make it to the gym to your hotel when you travel, or an airport if you get stuck there. Another important aspect of a workout system is a plan to help prevent and recover from injury. To many times in a workout program it is designed to focus on a specific type of workout, which tends to make us bored and unmotivated.
To lose weight there is no magic pill, just good old truth. Your body requires good nutrition from the foods we eat, for losing weight and for building muscle. The workout plan you select also plays an important part in losing weight and building muscle, especially when the diet is built around the workout. Find what works for you, your habits, and what has plans for you to follow when you either can’t do your regular workout, or have unexpected barriers to your workout.…

Muscle Building Foods – Foods That Help Build Muscle

Foods that help build muscle include lean proteins, complex carbohydrates and essential fatty acids. If you combine these three ingredients to every meal, along with the proper workout routine, you will be sure to build a bodybuilder physique much faster!
My favorite protein sources include whey, skinless chicken, soy, eggs, beans with rice, and fish.
My favorite complex carbohydrates sources include all vegetables, all fresh fruits, whole grain breads, long grain rice, oats, and legumes.
My favorite essential fatty acids include coconut oil, fish oil, olive oil, and flax oil.
Eat 5 to 6 small meals a day, eaten approximately 2 to 3 hours apart.
For every meal that you consume, hold up three fingers:
1. Protein.
2. Complex Carbohydrates.
3. Essential fatty Acids. (healthy fat sources)
Include all 3 in each meal, and you will increase the likelihood of building muscle faster!
Remember, to build muscle you have provide the body the proper nutrition. Nutrition is what will help the body repair. Repairing faster will help you build noticeable muscle gains.
Try consuming a small meal about 1 to 2 hours before a workout, then, once your workout is complete, consume another meal almost immediately afterward.
From there on out, consume a meal every 2 to 3 hours throughout the day. This will allow your body to stay in an anabolic mode, giving you the opportunity to over deliver nutrients to the body, making it easier to repair the muscle tissue that was broken down during your intense workout.
Follow these easy steps when planning or creating a meal, and you’ll always know you’re on the right track. It’s just that simple!…

Basic Ways To Lose Weight

It seems like there is a never ending quest for the great secret to weight loss. Everything from great grandma’s recipe to modern scientific discoveries have been used and abused in an effort to lose that extra poundage. Advertisements and commercials promise immediate and fully successful weight loss with just the use of a few pills each day. Numerous diet plans are available that supposedly provide the perfect plan for trimming down.
Of course none of these special plans or pills are free, they all come at a price, and often a rather expensive price tag at that! Unfortunately, all too many of these purported weight purging techniques are nothing more than that another technique. There will always be another person with another idea at the expense of a na?ve or desperate society.
So, how can a person truly lose weight?
What is the right plan?
We tend to run with greedy eyes to the newest fad, the newest diet, and all too often with great disappointment. Sometimes going back to the basics is the best way to accomplish some of the most formidable feats of life. Losing weight doesn’t have to be a great struggle or costly process. There are some basic ways to lose weight that are both workable and affordable.
First, the right mindset is essential to accomplish any task or goal in life. If I am going to lose those extra pounds, I have to be determined in my own mind that it is something I can and will achieve. Human nature tends to dictate to us that if at first I don’t succeed then I need to simply stop. Weight loss is not an easy task. It takes determination and time. The miracle weight loss programs that make their grandiose claims of phenomenal, and speedy weight loss, are for the most part scams.
Unfortunately, they tend to build a mindset that I will look like that toned actor on television who supposedly used that weight loss product and lost an incredible 50 pounds in an unbelievable short time. I have to remind myself that no one product can really do that, and if I am to lose weight I must be determined that I can do this, but it may take a great deal of dedication and time. The right mindset is the beginning place of losing weight.
Second, a healthy weight loss diet is highly recommended, but not one that requires a drastic reduction of calories. The best rule is to take it easy, and slowly reduce certain foods and calories. As the body begins to lose weight it requires less calorie intake to maintain endurance and good physical health. Yet, this takes time. Once again, patience is going to be a key to success. Make sure that you look carefully at a variety of food plans, and choose one that best fits your needs.
Third, eating right is great, but doing so with no physical activity is senseless. A basic exercise or workout plan is essential to burning those calories and ultimately losing those extra pounds. Start easy and build as your strength and endurance builds. Just as one diet plan is not good for everyone, so no one exercise program will work for everyone. Find a program that works for your particular, weight, age, and time economy then get at it! Make it a routine or habit for your life!
There are many ways to lose weight. Check them out. See what program best meets your needs and set your mind to do it! You must own the program in your mind, will, daily routine, and diet. If you do then you will be on the right path to weight loss.…

Your Health is a Precious Gift to Be Preserved

Most people would agree that the greatest gift mankind has, is the gift of life itself. But assuming that this is the case for all, the next most precious gift that we have is our health. True, there are many unfortunate people who are born with some sort of disability, and who therefore sadly will never know the wonderful gift of good health. For them it is enough that they thank God for their gift of life itself and make the best life that they can with the lot they are given.
For the rest of mankind, and happily the majority of people across the world, we enjoy good health, particularly in the western world where a sufficiency of wealth and civilization makes our lifestyles more enjoyable and interesting. And yet too many people today scorn the great gift of good health by living unhealthy lifestyles that are too stressful, and by allowing obesity to overcome them through poor diet and insufficient exercise.
It is often only when we lose our good health that we suddenly appreciate having had it in the first place, and for anybody who falls ill, your greatest dream will always be to be cured of whatever it is that is ailing you, and to return to the healthy life that you previously took for granted.
But maintaining good health doesn’t come by right. It usually has to be hard fought for because of the stresses of modern day life, and the easy availability of tobacco, drugs, alcohol and fast foods. In order to retain your good health it is necessary to abstain from some things altogether, such as drugs and tobacco, and to take alcohol and fast foods in moderation only.
By observing these simple principles, and by adopting a healthy, well balanced diet, plus engaging in regular physical exercise, you will be doing everything that is within your power to look after your good health. For most devotees of a healthy lifestyle, the key is in nature itself. When mankind first trod the Earth, the diet of our ancestors would have been entirely fresh and natural products. And it is a return to this style of living, in so far as it is achievable today, that most health gurus advocate.
When our cavemen forbearers walked the planet, there were no processed foods, nor were there any fast foods, and without the modern day conveniences that we now all take for granted, such as the automobile, washing machines, vacuum cleaners etc, you would never have expected to see a fat caveman or woman. As long as they could get enough fresh fruits and vegetables, their good health was a given.
Of course modern day science gives us a lot to grateful for. Modern medicine has taken great leaps and bounds, and we probably understand more today about the technical side of our diets, (what vitamins and minerals we need, and why), than ever before. But there is something to be said for the fact that our early ancestors didn’t need to understand why certain foods were good for their health, because they ate them naturally anyway, and had natural herbal cures and remedies for certain illnesses.
Today, we have to work hard at it to keep in good health, but it is quite easy to do if you put your mind to it. By eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, by keeping to a nutritious diet, by exercising portion control, and by ensuring you partake in regular physical exercise, you can give your body the very best chance of maintaining its good health.…

What You Need to Know About Postpartum Nutrition

Everyone knows the importance of good nutrition while pregnant, but what happens after the baby comes. Typically, new moms are exhausted, trying to figure out the baby’s schedule and many times either forget to eat, or eat something quick that provides little or no nutrition. This is not the best strategy if you want to recover quickly from your delivery and help your newborn to grow and develop.
Maintaining a healthy postpartum diet is also necessary for the healing and recovery process. A good diet supplies you with the energy needed to care for your newborn. If you don’t eat and drink enough, you may not produce enough milk for breastfeeding. Breastfeeding moms need to add around 300-500 additional calories to their daily intake. If you are feeding twins, double that! If you’re not breastfeeding, your caloric intake should be the same as it was before you became pregnant.
Eating properly will also help with deal with fatigue. The best way to fight postpartum fatigue (in addition to getting lots of sleep!) is to eat 5-6 small meals every day. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner, eat a mid-afternoon snack and a late night snack. When you’re tired, eat foods that require little or no preparation, like raw vegetables, fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, trail mix, broiled meats and fish.
Hydration will also keep your body nourished. Keep a pitcher of water beside your breastfeeding chair and keep drinking throughout the day. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as these will dehydrate you and negatively affect the baby if you are breastfeeding.
Ensuring your calcium intake is insufficient is vital for both your needs and those of your nursing baby. If it is not sufficient, your body will withdraw the calcium stored in your bones in order to produce the nutrient rich milk it needs. That means the future health of your bones suffers. Take the steps now to ensure your continued health.
Calcium can be found in milk products, yogurt, cheese, sardines and salmon with bones, and sesame seeds.
Iron is also an important part of postpartum nutrition. Unfortunately many women become anemic after the birth of their baby. Increasing your iron intake will combat anemia. Foods high in iron include lean red meats, egg yolks, tofu, lentils, figs, spinach and artichokes. Iron is important, but it is also important to help your body absorb the iron. Foods rich in Vitamin C help this happen. We know orange juice contains vitamin C, but you can also find it in other citrus fruits, tomatoes, baked potatoes, dark leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts.
If you are recovering from a Cesarean section, Vitamin C will help with wound healing. Proteins are also important to help your body repair itself, so make sure your diet includes high protein elements such as cheese, lean meats, seeds, tuna, salmon, lentils and peanuts.
You should not be concerned with weight loss in the initial postpartum period. It can take several months to lose the weight that you gained during your pregnancy. The best way to do this is not by dieting, but rather cutting out high-fat snacks and eating a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. You can safely lose 3-4 pounds a month as long as you continue to eat a healthy, balanced diet.
Walking is a great form of postpartum exercise and initially helps increase bowel activity and prevent constipation. Drinking water is also very important throughout the postpartum period.
Postpartum can be a difficult time for new moms. Let friends and family help. If they offer to bring over a meal — let them. You’ll appreciate it when you’re too tired to cook, and you will need the nutrition that a home-cooked meal provides. Get rest. Eat well. Love your baby. It’s just the beginning.…
